Sherlock And Irene, My Mind Palace

A future med lab assistant, 22 years-old young woman and certainly someone who ships Sherlock and Irene.

  • Why this hatred against Irene Adler?

I have allways wondered since I entered this fandom, why people hate this wonderful woman. When I say enter, this means into Internet because I am a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes since thirteen years. Moreover I have been amazed by A Scandal in Bohemia because Sherlock Holmes was capable of love and a woman was able to reach such a man heart!

Reason 1: I am a huge JohnLock Fangirl.

Okay, I understand why you love this pairing but I don’t think it was in Conan Doyle’s mind at all. Conan Doyle depicted a purely platonic relation between Sherlock and John. Besides, when Sherlock Holmes speaks about John Watson in the books, he tells John Watson is his only friend, not lover.

I know perfectly the new BBC show makes people wonder but this is purely friendship. I believe this confusion comes from other characters’ belief. They all believe they are gays but it is false.

Reason 2: I believe Sherlock Holmes is asexual.

I fear it’s false. Sherlock Holmes prefers being alone to solve his cases in a better way. In The Greek Interpreter where Mycroft Holmes is introduced, John Watson believes Sherlock Holmes is an orphan because he never speaks of family or friends. I can tell you John Watson has one of the biggest shock of his life when he learns about Mycroft Holmes’ existence.

Moreover this man prefers an antisocial life in order to keep his wonderful brain safe from this human relations. I don’t say he wants to be alone because Sherlock Holmes enjoys being with someone and talking with this person.

And in the BBC show, Sherlock Holmes tells something similar but this is the only way for him to say he prefers being alone for his work.

This scene might also mean if he meets someone interesting enough, why not?

Reason 3: Those men are gorgeous.

I understand this reason, I am a girl and I think Martin Freeman, Jude law, Robert Downey Junior and Benedict Cumberbatch are good-looking men. I understand when girls want those awesome men hanging out with themselves.

But, I am not a teenage girl anymore. I am almost 22. I know I won’t meet them personnally and I would love seeing them with someone.

    Conclusion:

I think those reasons are pretty poor for hating a character so much. Conan Doyle chose this woman to reach Sherlock Holmes’ heart, make him wonder about women and the different producers and directors followed his point of view. We are just fans, watchers and readers, we have to respect, to follow the writter’s point of view

I like how the BBC Sherlock fandom has done to the show the same thing it did to the Sherlock Holmes books.

“Mystery and intrigue? More like GAYS AND GAYS hahaha i am actually 10.”

  • Sometimes (most of times, allways) I wish JohnLock shippers don’t bash Mary Morstan or Irene Adler. They are the romantic interests after all. JohnLock is a mere fantasy.

Because it’s not in the books and quite frankly I don’t understand where does it come from?

I used to be a Yaoi shipper myself, I ship so few male x male pairings right now, even almost no one.

But I can ensure you as a huge fan of Conan Doyle, I have an amount of respect towards this genius and JohnLock doesn’t even cross my mind at all.

I am fairly surprised people think there is something more than friendship between John and Sherlock. Seriously, watch it again and again but I don’t see where does it come from.

Hotness? Good looks? Owning those men yourselves? Grow up a little. Please.

Don’t bash characters because it hurts a lot their creators, their fathers or mothers. As an aspiring writer I understand that a lot.

  • Flirting Time

I have noticed the numerous people who flirt or not with Sherlock. I have watched Sherlock's reaction each time.
    John Watson:
The doctor asks if Sherlock has any girlfriend or boyfriend. He is merely polite but Sherlock doesn't understand it at all. The detective isn't used to this kind of talk and wants to be sure he isn't interested in any kind of relation. Sherlock is embarrassed but he makes clear he doesn't want any kind of date.
    Molly Hooper:
Sherlock knows perfectly Molly is in love with him. But he flirts with her merely for getting what he wants. Sorry Sherlolly shippers but Sherlock uses Molly and he doesn't love her. But at least he isn't annoyed by being seduced by women. But I have to admit it's the only other pairing I can bear with Sherlock.
    Jim Moriarty:
Once again Sherlock thinks he is seduced by a guy. Okay Jim is disguised. But Sherlock doesn't like it at all and he sounds very harsh to poor Jim. He isn't comfortable obviously with men who seduces him at all. It means he doesn't like being seduced by men at all.
    Kitty Riley:
Obviously, Sherlock isn't annoyed by being seduced by women. He lets Kitty lead the analysis but he is disappointed. As a result he rejects her advances and he disappoints her. I think Kitty had a crush on Sherlock but Sherlock wanted to be sure she was able to manage a challenge. The man loves a good challenge. I think it's one of the biggest misunderstandings of Sherlock's mistakes of his life. Both are sad at the end or angry.
    Irene Adler:
For once a woman who is very clever. He lets Irene kiss his forehead and even lets her touch his hand. I think it's meaningful because according to what we see Sherlock is a straight man. When a man lets a woman touch him it means something very strong. besides she reaches his expectations in people. She is able to fool him and stun him. Wonderful, isn't it? That's why Irene is the only one romantic interest of Sherlock and vice-versa.

  • Notes from on a train: "We're not a couple." - "Yes, you are."

    jessamygriffith:

If Irene said that John and Sherlock were a couple, I have issues about how she flirted ‘at’ him, as she says, trying to provoke a response through texts, sleeping in his bed, kissing him, giving him puzzles - all that, over months. Months.

She saw they were in a relationship, albeit an…

She said it to gain time and to be sure John would stay quiet until Sherlock appears. She doesn’t care about what John might think it’s just one of her games. She knows they aren’t a couple at all otherwise she wouldn’t tell it openly. Irene isn’t the kind of person to say what she thinks, she says it in another way.

Plus she knows Sherlock would appear knowing him perfectly even though they have just talked few moments. Yet they shared an adventure when CIA killers went to her house. She knows Sherlock more than John.

Besides, just like Sherlock she wants to be sure about one of her theories. She claims something and she wants to provoke John to be sure he isn’t gay. She is in love with Sherlock and she knows what kind of guy John is. That’s why she said that.

I don’t say Sherlock is in love with John but he is the type of man who wants to know everything and he hates being kept in the dark at all. Irene uses that fact of Sherlock and she said that to be sure John would wait.
